Questions such as What should be addressed first? Are there enough resources? Is there support from upper management? will be addressed. The presentation will clarify next steps and will help identify and build upon current programs and initiatives the organization may already have in place.  Whether the end result is to function more fully as a green building or to begin a LEED certification process, assessing current operations, including water efficiency, energy efficiency, emissions, purchasing, waste management, site impacts, and indoor environmental quality will be covered. If you are looking for guidance or are considering green initiatives within your organization, this presentation will describe key areas of focus to meet your goals, and give you a sense of what must be addressed while preparing for LEED certification. Attendees should use the visitor parking lot and enter through the visitor entrance.

    Building Performance Measurement
    300 Level

Instructor: Mark Stetz, Stetz Consulting LLC, Durango, CO

    Description:
LEED certified buildings are promoted as energy-efficient, but how are energy savings determined in operating buildings? The USGBC made changes to LEED 3.0 that place additional emphasis on energy-efficiency and actual building performance. The Building Performance Measurement class starts with the basics of building performance measurement and why it is important to buildings designers and owners.

In addition, the 300 level class presents the principles of performance measurement and measurement & verification needed to earn LEED BD&C EA c5 and related credits. Principles and practice of the IPMVP will be introduced and explained. At the conclusion of the class, participants will have the information needed to calculate energy savings and emissions reductions from energy-efficiency improvements, write and implement a measurement & verification plan following LEED principles, and report the benefits of their buildings to clients, occupants, and USGBC.

    This class covers:
    • Updates to LEED 3.0 and the new Minimum
       Program Requirements
    • USGBC’s current Building Performance Initiative
    • Measuring building energy use and comparing to other buildings
    • Introduction to IPMVP principles referenced in EA c5 (BD&C)
    • Methods to earn EA c5 (BD&C) / EA-c6 (EBOM)
    • Introduction to EPA’s Portfolio Manager
    • Methods to calculate energy savings and emissions reductions

    Cost:
    $89 WGBA Members/$99 non-members

    Location:
    Environmental Systems Inc.
    3410 Gateway Road
    Brookfield, WI 53045-5115

    Prerequisites or Prior Knowledge:
This is a 300 level course and familiarity with building energy systems, modeling software, and
engineering principles is strongly encouraged. Expertise in these fields is not required.

GBCI CE Hours: 4 hrs, not LEED-Specific
